Fairfax, Ohio August 22, 2014 8:18 pm–9:39 pm thick air (muggy); sunset with brilliantly lit clouds turning gradually then rapidly to darkness punctuated by flashes from distant fireworks 81 °F (heat index 85–89 °F) short-sleeve shirt, hiking pants, sandals, bug spray saw my fan club (adolescent boys) on their bikes on my way to draw—one gave me a high five; all were excited to see me (and I them) mosquitoes ignoring my repellent until I sprayed on another layer U-Haul parked nearby, men said hi woman came out of house to see, warmly whoosh of traffic on Wooster Pike cars stopping to fill up people walking (dogs too); voices (children too) cicada buzz drowning out crickets humidity and smudgy glasses made light flare dramatically quite difficult to see by end
