Johnson, Vermont July 23, 2014 1:59 pm–3:10 pm wet and dramatic—light rain turned to a downpour with thunder and lightning, multiple rounds with periods of torrential rain; eventually traveled on leaving light rain again; stopped near very end 71 °F short-sleeve shirt, hiking pants, water shoes, rain hat, hair pulled back (rain jacket on backpack, not me) sheltered slightly under young tree got completely soaked (eyes, ears, and calves stayed dry) early splatter of drops on paper; later water pouring onto my drawing river rushing and roaring between bouts of thunder water poured off back of hat in a stream, cascading down my back—strange sensation flashes of lightning (and a jagged line over the hills); thunder pounding, crashing, tearing through the sky; sometimes fairly close and on multiple sides gravel path in font of me turned into a muddy riverbed for a while streetlights and headlights came on sang to pass the time during periods of deafening rain very few people passed by one bird flew through the clouds unpleasant to become wet; fine once soaked fingers were wrinkled at end
