Johnson, Vermont     July 12, 2014     3:48 pm–5:04 pm     pleasant in shade, except for mosquitoes     76 °F (was 84 °F on walk through town—much cooler under trees by edge of woods)     short-sleeve shirt, hiking pants, wide-brimmed sun hat, hair pulled back, bare feet     squirrels and birds chattering and complaining     stopped early on to put on bug spray     tormented by mosquitoes that buzzed and hovered, some braving their repellent to bite     birds chatting, singing, twittering     far-off traffic sounds (one car passed me, crunching gravel)     bites itching on knees, knuckles, ankle     kept swatting and waving at mosquitoes
