Fairfax, Ohio     January 9, 2014     10:46 am–11:20 am     cold and somewhat sunny     34 °F (windchill 32 °F)     long-sleeved shirt, leggings, flannel-lined jeans, fleece snow pants, fleece jacket, fleece scarf, winter coat, wool socks, snow boots, fleece-lined wool hat with earflaps, fuzzy gloves     birdsong all around, local traffic on the hill crossing the creek     twice a car stopped to make sure I had not fallen and was in need of assistance—both times the drivers were black     ice-melting salt embedded in the cardboard I was sitting on when I got up
