Joshua Tree National Park, California     February 21, 2014     1:33 pm–2:44 pm     sunny and bright with occasional gentle breeze and deep blue sky     71 °F     long-sleeved shirt (sleeves pushed up), climbing pants, socks, shoes, sun hat     silent except for rare bird calling, occasional voices of climbers     sat in sun perched on hard, sharp rock 30–40 feet up     got hot and thirsty     rock got very hard, but I had no margin for shifting     had to climb down carefully when done     saw lizards on walk there, a coyote during lunch, hopping birds (and more lizards) later     got a few scratches
